I bought this a few months ago and a few leaves have turned brown. Have I kept it too wet?

It was in quite poor light so I am moved it to south facing. Any advice?

i'd be a bit careful with south facing windows.

also it's rather difficult to keep phrags "too wet" but given very low light and too much water might be a problem.

I will move back when it gets too sunny - although not a problem at the moment in South London or anywhere else in the UK

It is still not doing well. Any advice? I think the problem is physical. I.e. the leaves are hanging over and getting water building up on them.

If growth is not strong on phrags (i.e. if they are a little on the cold side, with shorter daylight hours), then you need to keep them less wet.

I would tend to keep them in dappled light (though they would still prefer a good 14-16 hours of that dappled light a day). South-facing through a window at this time of year can start to get a bit bright for them perhaps.

However, if you can post some pics, it might help.

Thanks!

I'm afraid that looks like a goner to me.

Rot deeply set in, and it's taken the crown. The causes could be numerous (though, I'd be willing to air my hunch that in part-cause the pot was too big, leading to stale compost).

:-(

That's annoying - because it was the pot it came in!!!!!!

One way to ensure that I will not be buying from them again.

Personally, I wouldn't be too critical of the vendor just yet.
Never kept Phrags myself, but there are a few things they might not take to as mentioned by Kate & Rob.

But what do you mean by 'pure water'? If it's pure south-London tapwater then that might be a basic issue. Isn't that very hard alkaline water? From what little I've read about Phrags they might like acid water conditions.
Just a suggestion... what do you think?

Alec

Is there a chance that you got this plant recently and it was sent by post? Because it looks like it got much to cold for a perod as the dying is kind of abrubt and not slowly as would be the case with non optimal culture or a pot that is to big.

If it was sent in a box while it was to cold this could very well be the reason.

regards

Rogier

I agree with Rogier it looks like a cold snap with logged water damage to me.

I had this before :( but not on a phrag

This sort of damage will show sign only at a very late stage. or you have to be very vigilant

It was sent in October last year. I only gave it water from my condenser dryer which should be very pure (it is condensed water).
