Good morning All.
Am I correct with my ID of this? Sorry its such a terrible picture. Thought maybe overall shape might give it away to any that know. As you can see its popped up in a basket with a stanhopea in it!....As I dont have this plant else where must assume seed grown....Its got a single leaf, can just be made out behind the Rhipsalis stem,a fairly long spike which has had 3 flowers....they didnt seem to last long....Also, should I leave it...or remove it....and do what with it exactly Smile Thanks in advance.

This is Cynorkis fastigiata. A species from Madagascar and some of the islands in the Indian Ocean.

It it rather weedy and sows itself al over the place if you let the fruits ripen.

Not really harmfull for the other plants though. You can leave it where it is or transplant to its own pot when it is dormant.

Grtz

It's a known invasive species in glasshouses. While it is pretty it's really not something you want able to run unchecked through every pot you possess......

Hello

I must admit, I quite like it...
... Have you any spare nurseryman, or am i just going to have to wait for the pod to pop Laughing
actually jokes aside it is actually an orchid i would think about getting.

could you easly grow it from seed not in flasks, or is it just down to luck?

happy orchid growing

Good afternoon F2F.
I have had the stanhopea for about 3 yrs....and it was in a pot, so removed and planted in the basket , lined it with moss and used a bark, perlite, moss charcoal mixture as it was in this in the pot....I only saw it last year after it had flowered....thought first off it was a grass of some kind.....untill I saw the flower remains.....So if I dont have 1 anywhere else, it must have taken 2 yrs or more to get to flowering size.....as I am assuming the 'seed' was either in the pot when bought or in the moss/bark. If the pods develop, then you are more than welcome to the umpteen million seeds!

Anyway one persons weed is another persons favorite Smile

I was always told a weed is only a plant growing in the wrong place Laughing
I'm sure I saw them for around £10 a plant recently +P&P was about £4
